Gingham Is The New Black

Elizabeth Wilson Designs

In order to fall in love with fall you have to fall for the typical fall-ish colors. Right? Wrong!

Prepsters, we are happy to report that we do not have to wear the basic black uniform that fall seems to dictate year after year. Ask yourself, what about color? What about bold prints? What about gingham? Yes, gingham. Gingham is a traditional spring/summer print. However, this doesn’t have to be the case when the pattern is done in vibrant navy blues, crisp oranges, and apple reds. Don’t you see? Gingham can be worn in the cooler months too. The idea of transcending the typically summery gingham look into a warmer fall attire was brought to our attention by a rising preppy designer named Elizabeth Wilson.

Wilson, a Lexington, KY native, is studying to become a fashion designer. Based on her previous (and present designs) she is well on her way to making a name for her label. Her past collegiate designs have been known for their seersucker fabric, ruffled necklines, touches of bows, and pom-pom garnishments. These design aesthetics have appeared on many of her frocks, dresses, and fabric bracelets. Bloggers such as the ever popular Instagram account, Teggy French have been known to wear Miss Wilson’s creations repeatedly. In late September Wilson launched her highly anticipated Fall 2015 Collection within her Etsy shop appropriately named, Elizabeth Wilson Designs. Although, her seersucker creations aren’t available for the cooler months ahead, her vast preppy touches of bows, ruffles, gingham, plaids, and poms-poms still are.

Everything from the plaid ruffled sleeve shirt named Nancy Jane to the various color choices in her gingham Emma tops has us not only excited for fall, but excited to wear all of these preppy looks this fall.

If you’re not yet 100% percent on board with the idea of wearing gingham this autumn; glance at Wilson’s game day gingham inspired ruffled neckline tops, you’re mind might be swayed.

With all of Wilson’s fall design creativity, it got The Sloane Ranger thinking, ‘gingham is the new black.’ And boy, are we happy to welcome gingham back.
