England’s world-famous Glastonbury festival has now packed up for another year, leaving us with only euphoric memories of Adele, Coldplay and Muse – and our wellies absolutely caked in mud.
Admittedly, Glastonbury is always a mud-bath – and this year was no exception. It rained and it poured, but this did little to dampen the spirits of the 175,000 happy campers, among them the Delevingne sisters, Alexa Chung, Suki Waterhouse, Cressida Bonas, et al.
Let’s take a look at some of our favorite Glasto looks for 2016. Essentials this year were sportswear and bum-bags, tons of facial glitter, glorious sequins for Adele and Ellie Goulding, bulky high-vis jackets for the supermodels, feathered headdresses for the fans and – as always – a trusty pair of Hunter wellington boots.
British designer Anya Hindmarch created these personalised hi-vis jackets for some of the British fash-pack: perfect sturdy outerwear for the most unseasonable and somewhat unreasonable British weather. Here they are touching down in Somerset by helicopter, avoiding the road traffic into Glastonbury that some festival-goers waited for over 15 hours in. It’s alright for some, hey?
Oh Alexa, you always get it so right. We’re loving Ms Chung’s purple Hunter anorak and gloriously muddy wellies, paired with a multi-coloured stripe jumper dress that looks equal parts cozy and practical. Tall boots and bare legs always seem to win at Glastonbury, probably because the mud comes off easier this way!
Cara Delevingne pulls on a pair of over-the-knee socks to brave the chill under her sturdy Hunters, rocking her preferred sports-luxe look with an oversize shellsuit jacket, a logo sweat, teeny-tiny shorts and a handy bumbag. Her off-duty look is topped off, as ever, with a bold beanie cap – and a pair of brightly dyed braids which we also spotted on Suki Waterhouse. Rock on!
Cressida Bonas keeps it short and sweet in a practical pair of button-down dungaree shorts and a bright yellow anorak. So cute!
Supermodel BFFs Suki Waterhouse and Lily Donaldson huddle together for warmth trudging between stages at Glasto – Suki in a beanie and sporting shades and slogan sweater over a minidress, Hunters and knee-socks. Lily’s sporting double-denim in her slouchy boyfriend shirt, denim shorts and a skimpy crop top underneath. And they’ve got matching welly-mud, natch.
This is no Coachella, Sloanies! With barely a peep of sunshine all weekend, those hardy revellers had to pack smart and get inventive with their threads to keep warm and dry whilst still looking on-trend. Now we’re off to personalise our anoraks and dig out our bum-bags. Cheerio!
