Pass the smelling salts, darlings! With just a week to go until the Royal Christening, it’s all getting too much for us at Sloanie Towers. We’re ready to swoon over baby George (that’s His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge to you), we’re poised to drool at the sight of Kate’s hair/dress/shoes , and we’re taking bets on who will be honored with the role of Godparents (the safe money’s on Pippa…). Whichever way it all comes together on October 23rd, we’re confident that our favorite Sloane Rangers will pull it off with bags of style and confidence.

We love it that William and Kate have already made a point about being hands-on, modern parents – Wills even announced to the press that he’d changed his first nappy at the photo call outside St Mary’s Hospital the day after Prince George’s birth. And although the big day will be full of British pomp and ceremony (hurrah!) we’re excited to see the couple own Prince George’s special day in a way that previous Royals would have struggled to. They might have booked the Archbishop of Canterbury for the job, but they’ve also opted for the small and intimate Chapel Royal at their Kensington home for the ceremony.

Prince William, on the other hand, was christened in the Music Room at Buckingham Palace. And all of his six Godparents were chosen by Prince Charles – three being friends of the Queen. Do you see where we’re going with this, Sloanies? Wills and Kate are bound to shake things up a bit with their Godparent choices and provide Prince George with a clutch of young, fun and stylish Sloanes for his ‘moral guardians’. And most importantly – they’re sure to be people special to Kate as well as to the Duke of Cambridge. Bravo!

Now let’s cut to the chase: we know the hair will be all glossy, wavy and gorgeous – but what’s Kate going to wear? Her cute Jenny Packham shift dress drew sighs from all corners of the globe when she took to the steps of the Lindo Wing, baby in arms, on July 23rd this year. With its pretty polka dots it bore more than a passing resemblance to the dress that Diana, Princess of Wales and William’s late mother wore on those very same steps in 1982. Could we expect a similar tribute at the christening?

Diana wore a fuchsia pink dress with a daisy print for William’s christening in 1982. Not a dissimilar colour, in fact, to the Séraphine maternity dress sported by Kate in those snaps of the couple and baby at the Middleton family home. As a girl whose go-to color was always blue, is she preparing her audience for a splash of pink in the official christening photograph?

Whatever color Kate wears, rumor has it that her outfit will be McQueen – the British talent behind her wedding gown and one of the designers Kate trusts the most. Princess Diana kept a clutch of designers like Bruce Oldfield in her little black book, and Kate tends to do the same with her handful of favorites. So our second bet for the christening outfit? Something by Issa.

Always pristinely-accessorized, we think Kate will wear pearls for this special event, an elegant yet understated look for this important and – let’s face it – serious event. And in keeping with Kate’s signature style, we’d expect to see the return of her trusty LK Bennett court shoes – in nude, naturally. And what of her ever-present clutch? She might have her hands full this time…

There’s one thing we can be quite sure of, though – whatever the Duchess wears on the day, it’ll be sold out within minutes!
