Jolly exciting news, Sloanies: UK Tatler’s cover girl this month is a British royal we haven’t come across before. Hailed ‘the most beautiful member of the royal family,’ we can’t help but agree that twenty-year-old Lady Amelia Windsor is simply stunning, but there’s more to the 36th in line to the throne than just a pretty face. How on earth did we let this it-Brit slip our attention until now…?
The last time UK Tatler featured a royal family member on its cover was back in 2008 when they shot William and Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie for her 18th birthday. Lady Amelia (who is a granddaughter of the Queen’s cousin, the Duke of Kent) is currently in her final year at Edinburgh University, and rocks some serious fashion credentials. Her aunt Lady Helen Taylor was previously a brand ambassador for Armani, and it’s clear that this young royal not only models what she wears with panache, but she sure knows how to put a stunning outfit together too.
It was actually back in 2010 that Lady Amelia made her Tatler debut, modelling outfits designed by the Queen’s official dressmaker alongside her brother Edward and sister Marina. It was a seven-page spread, and the then-fourteen-year-old told her interviewer that she loved to browse the markets of Portobello Road in Notting Hill, and boutiques in the trendy Marais district of Paris, for one-off finds. This one’s a true, boho-Sloanie at heart.
Clearly a fashionista from an early age, Lady Amelia displayed signs of an individual style streak when she told reporters that her favorite item of clothing was a sweater inherited from her mother’s wardrobe. She explained to the Tatler interviewer at the time that ‘it was hers when she was young… and quite frankly, it’s the comfiest jumper you’ll ever come across.’ We’re loving her typically Sloanie attitude to fashion: comfort is always the cornerstone of confidence and style.
From paparazzi shots of the young royal at charity and society events over the past couple of years a clear personal style emerges: Lady Amelia is a fearless dresser who loves a pop of color and lets her long, naturally bronde locks do a lot of the talking. With her fresh-faced looks and her penchant for ethnic fabrics and braids, Lady Amelia’s style is firmly more Cressy than Kate, don’t you think?
Along with twenty other aristocratic young ladies, Amelia was officially ‘presented’ to society at an elite Parisian debutante’s ball in 2013. That dress with its shimmery detailing looks 2016 Oscars-worthy. She’s clearly one to watch, Sloanies. You heard it here first!
