In the wake of last week’s popular Beauty Buzz post, it is sure to say that we have all things beauty on the brain here at Sloanie HQ. In an effort to continue our beauty discussion, today’s post is brought to you by UK-based lifestyle blogger Katie Griffiths where she shares the current trending beauty looks for S/S 14 …
With the change of season comes a change of beauty trends, but what’s in and what’s out for spring/summer 2014? Here is your guide to the beauty looks you’ll be rocking as the days get longer and that little bit warmer.
Hair should be straight and sleek
Forget poker face it’s all about poker hair this season. Strike a pose with gorgeous, sleek straight hair.
Step away from the big barrel brush and don’t even think about backcombing. Big and bouncy Beyonce hair is out and sleek and straightened hair is in. Chloe, Donna Karen, Ralph Lauren and Miu Miu all showed off the straightened look on the catwalk and it’s one of the hottest looks of the season.
Bare skin is beautiful
English Rose – Achieve Anne Hathaway’s barefaced beauty by adding a slight dusting of colour on the lips
Natural beauty is a must this season. If you can’t dare to bare then swap out foundation for a lighter BB cream and a dusting of powder. If you are lucky and have soft smooth skin, a touch of concealer should do it and will create a natural finish in an instant. Use a foundation brush to create a thicker coverage where needed but remember less is more. Add some colour with a dusting of bronzer, or opt for a light rosy blush for that pinched and dewy look. Mac Prep + Prime BB Beauty Balm and Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge for Lips and Cheeks will create the perfect barefaced look.
Get in a flutter over pretty peepers.
Let your eyes take centre stage this season. Classic black eye liner should be your new best friend – if it’s not already. The cat flick is still hot and is easy to achieve with Mac Penultimate Eye Liner or Shu Uemura Gel Liner. Versace, Jonathan Saunders and Stella McCartney all showed how feminine and fabulous it can look.
Another trend believe it or not is to rock shades of azure, aqua, sapphire and sky blue on our eyes. Don’t be scared off, this can look really striking just make sure you keep all other make-up to a minimum to keep focus on the eyes.
If you’re not feeling so brave blue eyeliner will still have you looking bang on trend. -OR- Go all out with a flash of bright sky blue colour. Achieve this look with Nars cinematic eye shadow in Wishful Thinkng
Club Tropicana lips will be pouting all over the place this spring/summer. Think tropical sundaes and go bold with orange and pink tones. Intense and colour pop lips only work well when your base and eyes are understated. Jessica Alba and Lupita Nyong’o show how striking bright lips can look.
Recreate Jessica Alba’s look with Topshop lip colour in Barbie Pink Perfect for spring/summer pink looks stunning when skin is slightly bronzed.
