Whether you’re feeling flush or strapped for cash right now, we’ve curated some cute and classy Valentine’s Day inspo for you this week. Forget passé flowers, chocolates, comedy socks and toiletries this year. Whether you’re treating that special someone, lovebombing your BFF or just spoiling yourself this V-Day, we’ve got just the ticket for a sophisticated and – most importantly – thoughtful celebration of love.
A Year of Date Nights
Great for those without the time or money for a big day out or weekend away, show your commitment to making time for the two of you by presenting your special one with an envelope full of date vouchers. One for every month is a sweet idea, with seasonal activities depicted as craftily as you like on little tokens or cards. We love a bit of cut-and-paste, personally! These dates needn’t be all-out spending sessions, but simple things like grabbing a coffee together one Saturday morning, cooking a new recipe together for friends, or a trip out ice-skating when it gets cold. Works great for BFFs as well.
Something you can both enjoy is a Valentine’s Day cake (or cupcakes or cookies), a gift that says so much more than a box of chocolates. Check out the lovely recipes on Pinterest for all manner of tasty ways to tell them that you think they’re sweet. We’re planning on baking this White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake with tiny little love-hearts created with the delicate help of a plastic syringe, and hoping to avoid a Pinterest-fail!
Say it with Accessories
Gift them with an accessory that’s equally practical and luxurious, like a cashmere scarf for winter walks, a smart silk tie for work and interviews or a pair of silver cufflinks that you can have engraved with a personal message or preppy monogram. These are the things that will stand the test of time – something a bottle of aftershave simply can’t compete with!
Date Night Box
Present your special someone with a box full of all the ingredients for the perfect date night. It’s cute to find a large popcorn tub or an old wooden crate of some sort for this purpose, and fill it with a selection of DVDs, sodas, snacks and candy. Perhaps a few takeout menus, or some chopsticks if you’re ordering in Chinese food. Add in a scented candle perhaps, and a little bouquet of hand-tied flowers with anything else they might like. We might throw in a few bottles of nail polish if we’re having a date night with our girls for Valentine’s Day, or two pairs of cozy socks for snuggling into on the sofa.
