Rumor has it that some of the post-Oscars after parties are STILL going strong over in West Hollywood… So before the 88th Academy Awards officially packs up and leaves town for another year, we thought we’d bring you the scoop on our favorite looks from our best-loved starlets. A resounding trend this year was for metallics, sleek and shiny textures, floral and feathery embellishments, and sequins. Lots and lots of sequins. Here’s the Sloanie scoop on some of our favorite it-Brits who rocked the red carpet down in tinseltown…
British darling Cate Blanchett epitomised the 2016 red carpet flavour in this feathery, pearly, altogether angelic creation. A bold, breath-taking and, as it turned out, really rather divisive choice: just perfect for her role presenting the award for best costume designer. That greeny-blue hue suits Cate’s flawless English Rose complexion perfectly.
Super cool London girl Daisy hit the red carpet in this stunning Chanel haute couture gown: sheer, bejewelled and dove gray in color. A suitably celestial outfit for this straight-talking and fresh-faced Star Wars heroine. Peep toe Christian Louboutins finished off the look, with a slick of red lippy. Positively intergalactic!
Oh, Eddie! So our fave Etonian may not have bagged himself an Oscar this year but he looks as pleased as punch to be walking the red carpet with his gorgeous pregnant wife, Hannah. We’re not sure whose Oscars look we’re loving more though, to be honest: Hannah’s empire line gown with floaty chiffon and heavy gold embellishment is utterly divine. We’re also loving her perfect bronde locks. But did you spot Eddie’s embellished black velvet smoking slippers? So. Darn. Dapper.
You might remember this Irish beauty from the movie Atonement, where she played the meddlesome Briony, the younger sister of Keira Knightley’s character, Cecelia. Saoirse kept up the 2016 Oscars trend for opalescent, wet-look and shimmering gowns, telling reporters that her Calvin Klein emerald sequin dress – which we adore, and think makes her look like some kind of ethereal mermaid – was so comfortable it felt like she was wearing her sweats. Relaxed and super sleek at once: now that’s our kind of dress!
Supermodel daughter of British sing-songwriter Phil Collins, Lily channelled Great Gatsby chic for the Vanity Fair party. Her Saint Laurent floor length gold sequin dress is as striking and as shimmery as an actual Oscar itself, and Lily nails the roaring twenties flapper look with sultry eyes, cherry-dark lips and a shiny, finger wave bob.
