Does your summer wardrobe need a quick update before the season’s over? It needn’t cost the earth if you follow our simple tricks to freshening up your look on the cheap – while still looking classy, of course…
Give your daytime summer look an instant style upgrade with a cool pair of shades, like these little beauties we found in Zara recently. If you’re a Ray-Ban kinda gal, then be advised that Wayfarers are on the way out in favour of celeb-friendly Clubmasters, and elsewhere it’s all about retro-looking hues, blue metallic lenses, cats eye shapes and plenty of colored plastic.
Wide Legged Trousers
These flattering trousers have become the ‘it-pants’ of 2015: culottes breezy enough to keep you cool when the temperature spikes and wide-leg trousers the length to keep you warm when the nights become less balmy. They also score high for comfort, which is always a bonus here at Sloanie HQ. Dress them up for glam evenings instead of donning your full-length dress, or dress them down by day with a boxy tee and a pair of trainers for a sports-luxe look. We love how Brit designer Victoria Beckham wore her powder blue Chloe pants recently, with a simple white tee and platform heels.
Cute dungarees (close cousin of the fabulous jumpsuit) are having a serious fashion moment this summer, both on the street and the catwalk. Yep, your old favourite childhood fashion staple has been resurrected for summer 2015 – yippee! Whether you’re rocking yours with a floaty blouse and a short leg, loose and boyfriend-style with turn-ups and ripped knees, with a tapered cropped leg or an on-trend wide leg, dungarees are here for the foreseeable. Join the likes of Taylor, Alexa and Cara, and jump aboard the bandwagon!
Skirts, cropped cargo pants and military jackets when it gets a bit colder – khaki’s your go-top fabric for relaxed military style in summer 2015. Available in a spectrum of hues, you’ll find your shade and wonder why it took you so long to incorporate it into your wardrobe. We love Lily Collins’ A-line khaki skirt teamed with a pretty floral blouse – just the right mix of pretty and practical, tough and delicate. Wear with a bit of bling for the perfect on-trend look. New to khaki? Start with an army jacket and you’ll find you can wear it with everything. Or, tick two boxes at once and get your dungarees in khaki.
Simple: four easy and affordable ways to stay on-trend as summer draws on. We bet if you had a rummage in your wardrobe you might even unearth pair of dungarees from when you were a kid. Upcycle them into dungaree shorts and give them a new lease of life!
