Sun, Snow or Spa – The Sloanie Holiday Guide

January’s here and it’s time for a Sloanie mass exodus. Chelsea and Kensington slowly empties over the next few weeks as Sloanie friends, couples, and families leave the city for a winter retreat.  These well-traveled guys and gals are never far from their next holiday, and once the post-Christmas lull sets in is a favourite time to pack up and jet off for a week or two. For some, it’s all about getting some heat into the bones with a couple of weeks in the sun. For others, what’s really needed is an invigorating week on the slopes. The rest will check into a spa hotel for a few days of well-needed R & R.

Playground of the rich and the beautiful, this little island in the West Indies is a hot spot for partied-out Sloanes who fancy a week or two of recuperation before getting back to the hustle and bustle of London town. It’s a favourite destination for those holidaying on yachts to drop anchor and while away a lazy afternoon with a cocktail and some lunch.

Sloanes, monarchs and rock royalty alike love Mustique because it’s small and difficult to get to, so it’s practically free from the prying lenses of the paparazzi. Prince William and Kate holidayed here when millionaire family friend John Robinson gifted them a week in his luxury villa, and Mustique is where Nico Jackson is hotly tipped to have proposed to Kate’s sister Pippa last autumn.

A popular alternative to the beach break is a ski getaway – and Klosters in Switzerland comes out top in the Sloanie stakes, followed closely by Courchevel 1850 and Chamonix in France, and Saint Moritz in Switzerland.

Klosters is preferred ski destination of Prince Charles (he learned to ski here at fourteen) and it’s here that Prince Harry and Cressy went public with a cuddle on the slopes back in 2013, following in the footsteps on Wills and Kate back in 2004. Bless! London socialite Tara Palmer-Tomkinson rates Casa Antica as the best club in Klosters – she likes to party here with actor and fellow Sloane Rupert Everett.

And for those who want to keep it local, there’s always Champneys for a relaxing getaway in the countryside. This exclusive British spa and hotel chain offers their A-lister guests all manner of healthy holidays, including detox weekends, fitness boot camps and one-day wellbeing experiences.  Politicians, models and sports stars are regulars at Champneys, and its flagship residence in leafy Hertfordshire was once home to the multi-millionaire Rothschild family.

A spa weekend is the perfect opportunity for Sloanie friends to get away from the chaos of the city for a couple of days. With healthy meals on request and as many beauty treatments as a girl can handle, the only pressing decisions that need making are whether to go for that manicure before or after a dip in the infinity pool…
