Way back to the 1940’s when Don Loper and Dorothy Draper each designed their iconic Banana Leaf Wallpapers for the even more iconic hotels – The Beverly Hills Hotel in Beverly Hills and the Greenbrier Hotel in West Virginia. It’s unclear who first came up with the print, as both were introduced in the 40’s by their respective designers, regardless, we are happy this print is making a resurgence in fashion and decor.

There are not many prints that can span the gap between fashion and decor as easily as this one, but somehow it works for both industries. So what makes the print so versatile? We think it’s a mixture of a few things.

It’s iconic. People all over the globe recognize this print. Not only have the hotels that house it made it popular, but it’s been in tons of ads, magazine spreads, home decor blogs, and more. Let’s just say it gets a lot of press.

It’s preppy. Although it didn’t originate in Palm Beach, it screams Palm Beach, and Palm Beach = preppy. The colors are also a staple on the preppy scene. Green is a definite prep color. You heard it first here, Sloanies.

It’s boho. We know. This may be confusing, but this print effortlessly crosses over from preppy to boho. It’s all in how you style it. We trust you get this.
